what's on right now? what's on repeat?
here's mine
i owe most of what moves me musically to Dance Dance Revolution, a common dance music onramp for deeply online would-be rave babies who unfortunately had to be a middle schooler in the no-fun US in the early aughts. i've returned to plenty of these heavily compressed derivative-of-a-derivative-of-a-derivative work eurobeat heaters over the years, but there's something extra special to me about WWW.BLONDEGIRL (Momo Mix) and the rest of dear JENNY ROM's oeuvre (an artist best known for the randomness XD INSTANT classic WAKA LAKA, which needs no introduction). the way the M1 pianos sound like they're being shaken vigorously inside of a small box and bouncing off the walls during the chorus, the diverse # of orchestral stabs liberally distributed throughout, completely uninfuckingtelligible his-n-hers lyrics....... it's perfect
[NOW PLAYING]
THIS WEEK: Atomic Bomb by William Onyeabor
"YOU MEAN YA GONNA EX-PLODE??"
This was the only song I seemed to listen to the other day and it played on loop in my dream the entire night
THIS MONTH: all of Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads
When I finally started downloading mp3s and putting new albums on my ipod this was just sort of a random choice I threw on there but kept returning to again and again.
THIS YEAR FOR SOME REASON: The Weight by The Band
Because I'm an old fart burnout apparently! Not sure why I've played this so much, at some point I put this on my karaoke playlist, and then on my "unbreak your brain" playlist and it just kept coming up. It's a classic but it has such a solid, like, folktale vibe.
BONUS: finally downloaded a not-broken version of this Dur-Dur Band album to put on my ipod so that will be entering rotation on bike rides and walks
