I've been learning Esperanto

Your brain is full! Get that gunk out of there! Put it in writing! Info dump whatever weird thoughts you got buried in there. Go hard on the deep dive. Tell me a dang story. Feed me the whole meal.

I've been learning Esperanto

#1 Post by Josie »

So, the short version of it is that I learned about the attempted international auxiliary language called Esperanto at a party, and now I've been learning it on Duolingo over the past couple months. I've primarily used this to write little Esperanto shitposts. I'm just gonna dump a few of them them here. You can run them through Google translate if you like.

(Or try learning it with me, it's only four units on duolingo compared to like, ten for Spanish. Totally useless for most of the reasons people learn languages, but a relatively easy language to learn with a really interesting history.)

Kvarcent dudek flamegu gxin

Bonvolu memorigi min mangxigi la katknabino
Sesdek naux. Tio estas la seksa numero. Boneta.
Me writing Esperanto: mia Esperanto plibonigxas! Mi estas tiel bona esperantisto :))

Me in the Esperanto for beginners zoom: "jes" "ne" "uh" "mi ne komprenas"

I've heard that Esperanto is really useful as a bridge between languages / makes it easier to learn a lot of other non-constructed languages that it was modeled after.

All those little accents worked for me (albeit with a funky looking font). There should be an accented characters map tab near the smileys when you're making a post. This is what your post looked like on my end:

This is true! Another motivation for me to learn it was to see if it would help with learning Spanish.

That doesn't look too terrible, but this is what it looks like on my end

When i say "most of the reasons" i mean like, the more common financial and social reasons. It's very cool and good if you just want to get really into language learning. My coworker who knows more languages than me is loving it because she can see the connections between languages she learned and Esperanto.

It's just an Esperanto thing. You can also use Hs, but i prefer Xs. H is a letter in Esperanto but X isn't, so to me X feels less ambiguous. But also for certain letters the H does phonetically line up. For example: ŝ has a "sh" sound.

Just riffing on a duolingo sentence here. i think my favorite thing about Esperanto is that the word for person is homo.

Tio estas grava konsidero, sed mi estas naivega homo, do ne demandu min. Estas tempoperdo.
